Vegan dog food ≠ Dog abuse?cid=19

“Dogs need meat to survive”,is a common refrain among dog lovers. If you give your dog vegetarian dog food, most dog owners would probably think:What did the dog do wrong? Why torture the dog? !

What you are going to talk about today may not be consistent with your original values, and you may not be able to accept them in the end.

But knowledge is open, the world is progressive, sustainable development is also the trend of the day, so I hope you read it carefully.

There is a lot of debate about whether domestic dogs are carnivorous or omnivorous, but the view that domestic dogs are omnivorous is relatively mainstream.

In the process of domestication, gray wolves developed genes for digesting starch, eventually becoming the domestic dog they are today.

Dogs have evolved alongside humans over thousands of years, making them better adapted to human living conditions. Dogs are better equipped to digest starchy foods (enhanced enzyme production) than wolves, and scientific research has shown that dogs can digest starchy, plant-based foods better.

In this sense, it makes it possible for dogs to eat vegetarian dog food.

The ROYAL Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), the world's oldest animal welfare organisation, states: "Dogs are omnivorous and can eat different kinds of food. Dogs can survive on a vegetarian diet as long as the diet is balanced and rich in the nutrients they need. But the food must be balanced, or they will get sick."

Does your dog have a feed allergy or animal protein intolerance?

Does your baby scratch herself a lot and take allergy medication constantly?

At this level, the assumption that dogs need as much meat as possible, or that dogs need to eat large amounts of meat as an optimal nutrient supplement, is not true. Dogs need proteins specifically tailored to their needs, but those needs don't necessarily come from meat.

Many of the vegan dog foods and snacks on the market today are designed to meet international nutritional requirements and provide a full range of services for your adult dog.

Thanks to the wonderful combination of these different kinds of vegetable proteins, dogs can potentially meet their nutritional needs even better than meat-based proteins.

In the past few years many people have changed their views on nutrition and meat consumption, and the proportion of vegetarians is increasing. Much has also changed about dog breeding, with the demand for vegan dog food soaring.

Pet food production, designed mainly for dogs and cats, accounts for a quarter of the environmental impact of meat production, according to a study published in the journal plos ONE.

Veterinary scientist Dr Ernie Ward previously said: "The fact is that the marketing slogan 'dogs love meat' has no scientific basis at all and, frankly, meat can have a potentially devastating impact on your pet's health. Recent advances in food technology mean vegan pet foods can meet all your pet's nutritional needs."

Dr. Ward also noted that a growing number of studies have found that a vegetarian-based diet can not only reduce the risk of cancer in dogs, but also prolong their lives.

Ethical reasons aside, giving up meat is a good choice for the environment: if it takes 15,000 litres of water to produce a kilo of beef, it takes only 1,300 litres to harvest a kilo of potatoes.

So by feeding your dog vegetarian dog food, you're simultaneously contributing to climate change.

After looking at these three points,

Do you still believe that vegan dog food is dog abuse?
